RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE Project

Robotic Exoskeleton System for hemiplegia Rehabilitation RESTORE
(project code: Τ2ΕΔΚ-05218)

The project RESTORE concerns the research and development of an innovative exoskeleton robotic system suitable for restoring the movement of the upper hemiplegia by stroke. The development of the innovative product thus falls within the broader spectrum of the medical industry, particularly in the field of rehabilitation and treatment. The main scientific idea on which RESTORE is based on is the well known Mirror Therapy Rehabilitation Method. The disadvantage of MirrorTherapy is that the patient does not use the damaged hand in the treatment and all the restoration is based on the healthy hand. The effectiveness of this method lies solely in the provision of visual indications to the brain. However, a routine mechanism that can provide beyond visual indications and aesthetic actions will give more chances of better and immediate improvement of the patient. Essentially, the RESTORE project is the progression of this treatment, with the affected upper limb moving in reality and not lying in hallucinations, triggering more parts of the brain. The RESTORE project aims to help people suffering from a stroke and having a malfunction at the upper limb. The RESTORE consists of two main parts, the robotic hand applied to the hemiplegic upper limb and the control glove, through which the patient controls the whole process of rehabilitation with standard movements that fall into the normal movements that have as a means of replication the kinesiology of the healthy using the sensors.

RETOUCH-HS has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the call RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE (RESTORE, project code: Τ2ΕΔΚ-05218)»
